As a fellow StopfordianI, Helen Clapcott's paintings bring back memories of Stockport as it was. Before reading your post I didn't know about her. Unfortunately I won't be able to see the exhibition, as I live in France, but I shall look out for her work in future. Thanks for the discovery Jane.

I love this. I love big works by women artists. I collect art by women, and my walls are full of them.

Another helping of gorgeous pictures to illuminate your text. Thank you for the beauty you expose us all to each Sunday.

Despite living near & attending SS Peter & Paul RC church intermittently, I only became aware of Margaret A Rope’s stunning Arts & Crafts stained glass windows via Women’s Hour. I remember the PP one Sunday morning telling the congregation that some yobs had lobbed stones & damaged some most valuable windows - MAR’s.

How sad that a woman of such large talent should occupy the smallest state possible by becoming a Carmelite (silent order) nun.

Another thoughtful post. I was also a very tall child, and I love a high ceilinged-room. Thank you for the link to the banners story - I drank my first cup of tea and scrolled through. Wonderful.

I grew up near Forest Hills NYC so was charmed to see the last photo. Where did you unearth it?
