I think a gasholder would make an excellent place for a big trampoline.

My friends went to GY Art school of art in 70s. Some beautiful buildings in the town if you over look the seaside town decay! The Hippodrome still has its working water circus ring!

Very interesting, don't forget 'retail archeology' in other words old shop fronts. They are disappearing but I do go round taking rather amateur photographs of the ones that are sill around.

It is always a pleasant surprise to read your tour / history / art gallery / architectural survey / creative entry each week! Our lives are so very different! I’m on a small farm in the NC mountains and feel as if I get a weekly visit to the England I love! You take me places I would never see and enrich and broaden my thinking…. These are fascinating and beautiful structures which should have a use if nothing more than as a green space / allotment centerpiece! The early architecture of the 20th century is so artistic and stunning…. What a shame to lose that….

I believe there were two or three gasometers in the Portwood area of Stockport. I have

fairly clear memories of walking along Gt Portwood street in the 50s as a small child and seeing at least one and being well aware of the pretty permanent smell of gas in that area!

I had a look when I was writing this and you're right. I don't remember them but I do remember the big cooling tower.

There used to be a couple of gasometers near where I grew up in London. I was always in awe of these huge structures as they were the largest things around at the time.

You have made me think of these relics from my childhood in a completely new light. They could be the tracery for giant stained glass windows. Thank you!
