What should you do when given 72 hours in Copenhagen? [Wilhem Marstrand, 1836] Danish art, especially knitters with attitude (not sentimentality). [Christoffer Eckersberg, 1836] [Constantin Hansen, 1836] ]Jergen V Sonne, 1848] [Emilius Barentzen, 1826]
How I look forward to my weekly travels with you! Seeing galleries and places I will never go is a delicious Sunday morning treat. The knitters….. who cannot relate to the “I’ll stab you in the eye with these needles if you say one more word” look… she must’ve had four children and a husband asking those three dreaded words “what’s for supper?” 🤣
Next time you consider going to Denmark, try Skagen in the far north. Fantastic art gallery there too. And I will definitely go back to Copenhagen because I inexplicably did not do the art galleries the only time I've been there. I love the painted knitters.
Hoping to stop off in Copenhagen en route to Gothenborg by train (a wish-list trip - I refuse to use "bucket list"). Loved that suppressed fury knitter! Totally agree on airports. In September we flew from Edinburgh to Gothenburg, and the minute you're inside the terminal building in Gothenburg it's CLEAN. And fresh, and sparkling, and light. Even at 12.30 am after a much delayed Ryanair flight. Why can we not manage this? Is there a special British procurement department for "grubby airport carpet"? Your photo of colourful houses and boats reminded me of the design just launched by Mini Moderns - "A postcard to Inger" https://www.minimoderns.com/product/postcard-to-inger-duvet-cover-set
I love this itinerary! While I haven’t been to Copenhagen (yet), my dad is Danish-American and I love hearing his stories about visiting family back in Odense as a teen. Tusind tak!
Thank you for this quick highlight on Copenhagen! The paintings are wonderful and are beautiful things to contemplate today. Now to find a cardamom bun recipe.

Looks like another place to add to my list of places to visit! Love the Berta Wegmann. Thank you.

How lovely - and I like the idea that 'excellent vowels' should be a good reason to visit a place!
What a lot of paintings of knitters...was that a themed exhibition or do you have extra handicraft antennae?! We went to Copenhagen a couple of times while researching Nelly Erichsen whose family came from there. She often went back and she gave a Gauguin painting to the Gallery, given to her by his abandoned Danish wife. https://open.substack.com/pub/harkness/p/sad-days-in-copenhagen?r=gqpmg&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true
A hadn’t realised how much I missed your musings in my life. I am beyond thrilled to enjoy the serendipity of Substack. New on here and loving it
Love Copenhagen. Also highly recommend Aarhus. Den Gamle By is a treat as are the Botanical Gardens.
LoveCopenhagen, but Copenhagen Airport has the worst ‘services’ for disabled passengers I’ve ever encountered …
You’ve reminded me why Copenhagen is so good, definitely need to revisit soon, if for only Juno Bakery!!!

Love the knitty art, and oh-my-gosh yes, Standsted is one of the circles of hell....

Oh how absolutely marvelous! This was a real treat. Thank you. I can’t get there soon enough.
