Having read High Wages I feel I must read it again. This is where I first heard of and read your writing. The one abiding memory I took from the book is when Jane is on the train to Manchester, and blames the cotton industrialists for ruining what had been the beautiful Lancashire countryside. My home town was afflicted by them, and is now a graveyard to post-industrialisation.
Will have to find that series! I need a few laughs these days…. And, grandmotherhood is the best; you can shake ‘em up, sugar ‘em up, and send ‘em home!!!! Also, it’s a chance to get back in heaven after all the suffering our kids did! Ha!!! As has been said, I wish I’d been a grandma first! Boy, I’m full of catch phrases today…. Enjoy as they grow way too fast!!!
Substack fail perhaps feels annoying after you carefully crafted this post. But your words and images win through, thank you, will look out for Ted Lasso
Many thanks Jane as ever for another interesting blog. It's always an uplifting start to my Sunday. Beautiful artwork as ever, and delighted to see the reference to a favourite writer, the beloved Dorothy Whipple. High wages is a superb read, and I will look forward to your forward!
I love the wonky crosses. Enjoy your time away. Thanks again.
Ted Lasso is one of the best things on TV. We were late to the party as usual, binge watched and now rewatching at a slower pace.
I think people like it so much because it's uplifting, funny, there are characters you end up caring about a lot.
Programme commissioners please take note.... We don't always want angst, violence, noir, reality rubbish. In fact we rarely want angst, violence, noirreality rubbish.
Your points were good enough to make twice, or even three times!
Thanks for the laughs! And that baby is adorable❣
Well, we got to read your post twice today, so that’s a good thing!
Sometimes it’s just nice to know that my head is not the only thing in a jumble!
Never tried Ted Lasso, will give it a go. The last thing i watched and laughed out loud to was the marvellous Fleabag.
I adore Ted Lasso! I think the first season is the best, but the whole thing is such a delight
I am a Dorothy Whipple fangirl, perhaps because of a mention in your old blog. Might need to reread this one.
Will have to add Ted Lasso to my watch list.

Enjoy your little one, and the tea break.
