I made one. I made a rag rug I was starting to feel like Goldilocks. This base material was too tough, this one was too soft. This hook was too thick, this one was too fiddly. Until finally I worked out the materials and method which were just right.
Ooohhh cashmere underfoot. What a wonderful idea! I have a number of cashmere jumpers thrifted for a project sometime in the future and I think this might just be it π Now to learn how to make a rag rug β¦ Thank you for the inspiration.
Just discovered you again. I was a long time reader of your Yarnstorm blog which I alway found inspiring and now enjoying your Substack columns. Lovely to wake up to a lazy Sunday breakfast and some thought provoking and interesting items. The only problem is ending up with a myriad of open files so I donβt forget what I want to look up. Thank you for the time you clearly take to make this so good.
So glad my suggestion worked - I really love your cashmere rug. When I teach workshops I always emphasise that there are many ways to make a hooked rag rug and mine is just one of them - but honed over 20 years so I know it works! I agree, some how to books seem like the authors haven't actually tried the method they suggest.
Inspiring as always Jane. Iβve never made a rag rug. Maybe one day. There is a woman named Amy Oxford who has developed a punch needle and some friends I have love doing it with yarn. Hereβs her info. https://amyoxford.com/
Yes to cashmere underfoot! As per Sharron, I too have several thrifted cashmere jersies and this is an amazing way to use them! Love, love, love your design too ~ random yet controlled.
Well Jane of course the answer is to write that essential book!!
