Some people are so tidy you never know they’ve been in a room! Not me! Knitting, embroidery, book I am reading, books I might read, knitting patterns I might use, a basket of WIPs, newspaper, cup of tea! Oh and my book of lists.
When we downsized, I was determined to keep our flat perfectly in order. I thought my husband would love that. He didn’t! He loved seeing my projects, books and disorder around. He felt it was too sterile!
I'm sitting in my nest drinking my coffee this Sunday morning. I first met you in the Gentle Art of Domesticity, cottoned on to your blog shortly before it shut down, rediscovered you at Persephone and am chuffed to have you in my life again. Joy!
I love receiving your newsletter. One of my favourite books of all time is your book The Gentle Art of Quilt Making and this is what I love about your newsletter is it is gentle but prodding and intelligent. Your musings are very reflective of what a lot of us feel and it’s wonderful how you express it and see beauty in nature and the connection with our own lives. Thank you
Hi Jane, hoping this finds you well. 2 questions re stained glass- do you ever present your talk in London, or by Zoom? I have a yr 11 RE class and we looking at sacred stained glass, and making cross stitch design on black Aida. I’m lucky to play often in All Saints Putney with their beautiful Burne Jones, and I have sung in Tudely church surrounded by the amazing Chagall windows. I re-read and love all your books and your words here and on IG.
Hi Geraldine, I haven't yet done a Zoom presentation. What kind of thing are you thinking of? (I focus more on stained glass as a form of visual culture rather than religious iconography.) Fantastic stained glass in All Saints, and I also love the Chagall windows!
It’s such a delight to receive your newsletter, and to take a few moments with my Sunday morning coffee to read through your musings and, most often, learn something new. Your blog influenced me greatly at a time when I was a university student and budding, cutthroat career woman - but also a lover of all the domestic arts. I can’t look at a tulip catalog, knitted tea cosy or fairy bun without thinking of yarnstorm. Thank you.

So glad I am not the only one who does this 🤣 I had to tidy it all away yesterday because we had visitors and now I can’t find my ‘things’!!

I'd love to know which translation of Proust you like best.
I look forward to our Sunday morning coffee and visit! You leave me with food for thought and the curiosity to delve into topics you mention!
